Former Chairman of Nigeria’s National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Prof. Chidi Anselm Odinkalu, has pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari to do the country a favour and resign now.
Prof. Odinkalu made the remarks following President Buhari’s remarks on Monday that he is eager to go, as reported by News Band.
According to a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, the president said this when he received some governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC), legislators, and political leaders at his home in Daura, Katsina State.
President Buhari described his seven years in office as “tough” saying: “I am eager to go.”
This was as he called on the Academic Staff Union of Universities to consider the plight of the future generations of the country as the strike stretches into the fifth month.
Reacting, Odinkalu took to his Twitter handle on Tuesday to advise President Buhari on the honourable thing to do.
He tweeted:
Other Nigerians also joined Prof. Odinkalu to show Buhari the way out. The following are just a few:
Abeg it's better he do and go. I dont the northerners saying he was forced out

Such a statement from the President of Nigeria confirms one thing ie @MBuhari knows that he is a good-for-nothing red head. His only mission in the Villa is to lead terrorism & Islamise Nigeria. As a nincompoop that he is, he crowned his ignominy with all-Muslim ticket on exit.

Colossal failure. No foresight No Vision. He just wanted to be President.

Do we have a value below 1? That is how I want to rate him: below 1.
But, on the scale of 1 – 10, I will generously give him 1.

After all the desperation to occupy the seat. After all the sectarian attacks. After all the rabid irredentism. After all the religious bigotry. After all the 97% -5% gaffe. After all the dot-in-a-circle animus. After all the brazen Fulanisation agenda. So, it comes down to this.
