JUST IN: Wike, other aggrieved PDP govs travel to Spain

Governor Nyesom Wike and three of his Southern counterparts have reportedly travelled to Spain.

Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state and Samuel Ortom of Benue State were among the aggrieved governors who travelled to Spain.

A top party chieftain in the state confirmed this development to Punch Newspaper.

“Yes, it is true. They left for Spain early Saturday morning, but I can’t say the reason for the trip.”

This is coming after governor Wike had addressed a live media chat on Friday morning at government House, Port Harcourt where he made fresh revelations about the national chairman of the PDP, Senator Iyorcha Ayu.

Wike and four of his colleagues including their Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who was not part of the latest trip are now known as the G5 calling for the resignation of Senator Ayu.

Wike at the briefing said that they were not leaving the party, but that it would not augur well for the party if they dump the main opposition party.

Wike also at the media chat said he will not back down on his call for Ayu removal in order to pave the way for a Southerner to succeed him as the party’s chairman.

While noting that there would be no peace in the party if Ayu doesn’t resign, he said a situation where the PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and the national chairman (Ayu) come from the same zone does not make for equity, fairness and justice.
