Kogi Polls: Police recovers 16 AK-47 rifles from suspected thugs

Ahead of the November 21 Kogi State governorship election and in a bid to provide security in the forthcoming poll, the state police on Monday, November 9, arrested some boys suspected of being political thugs secretly trained by the PDP in the state to disrupt the election.

A source close to the police said that the boys numbering about 25 were rounded up by the police at a location in Ejule in Ofu local government area of the state when they were holding a meeting at midnight on Saturday, November 7.

Confirming the incident the state police commissioner, Emmanuel Ojukwu, said that some “bad boys” were arrested with weapons.

The commissioner said that further details will be subsequently given as the press will be adequately briefed after police investigations.

Speaking further, Ojukwu warned that miscreants and political thugs should keep away from the state as the governorship election approaches stressing that anybody caught in any act of violence will be made to face the wrath of the law.

The police boss did not also leave various politicians in the state out of it as he further warned that they should endeavour to conduct themselves within the ambit of the law.

Ojukwu said that no matter the political party nor how highly placed an individual may be, if they sponsor any form of agitation leading to restiveness and thuggery in the state before, during and after the governorship election, that they will be made to face prosecution within the law.

The source said the police have already begun an investigation of the suspects.

It was reported that 16 AK-47 rifles, four double barreled shotguns, three locally made pistols, knives, cutlasses and some charms were recovered from the arrested youths.
