Sanusi II reportedly reinstated as Emir of Kano

In a dramatic turn of events, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II has been reportedly reinstated as the Emir of Kano, following the passage of a new law by the Kano State House of Assembly.
The law abolishes the four additional emirates created in 2019 by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
Sanusi’s reinstatement comes after the State Assembly passed the “Kano State Emirates Councils (Repeal) Bill, 2024”, which dissolves the additional emirates and restores the original Kano Emirate system.
Sources close to the situation have confirmed that Sanusi II will return to Kano on Friday, although there has been no official statement yet.
The development is seen as a victory for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who promised to restore the old Kano Emirate system during his election campaign.
Sanusi was first deposed as Emir of Kano in 2019, following a rift with then-Governor Ganduje, who created the additional emirates and appointed new emirs.
The reinstatement of Sanusi II marks a significant turning point in the political landscape of Kano State.
