More light has been thrown to national conference planned for today in Abuja by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
It was to take stock, look into the party’s present status and “formulate measures and ways to play a better and responsive opposition in the prevailing scheme of things in the country”
In an exclusive interview with the ‘The Authority’, the Anambra state chairman of the party, Prince Ken Emeakayi [image above] yesterday threw more light on the reason for the conference scheduled by the party.
He disclosed that “it is to assess critically the journey so far and formulate ways to move ahead in view of the new role of the party as the main opposition party in the country.
It will also avail us opportunity to look into most of the nagging national challenges including some verdicts in the various state elections tribunals, amongst other challenges.
“We are to brainstorm on our political fortunes, look inwards on where we are, and where we are going; a kind of deep self-appraisal…to enable us trace where we went wrong or missed the ideals of the founding fathers. So as to go back to them, Emeakayi noted.
He confirmed that Anambra state chapter was participating fully in the conference and that he was in fact a member of the national planning committee.
He described the former Vice President Dr Alex Ekwueme as being very well-suited to chair the conference.
This is because he was the pioneer national chairman and a key pillar and motivator in the formation and emergence of what is today the PDP.
He expressed gratitude to him for accepting to chair the meeting.
On qualification for attendance, Emeakayi disclosed that there were statutorily and constitutionally qualified delegates and that the conference will leave no stone unturned in effort to move the party and the nation forward.
