As the race for the 2023 Anambra South Senatorial District election heats up in the state, a series of dramas ensued over the weekend involving two major contenders from the industrial town of Nnewi — the incumbent senator, Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), and Hon. Chris Azubogu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
The turf of the battle on both occasions was Umudim, the home community of Hon. Azubogu.
The first drama saw Azubogu applaud Senator Ifeanyi Ubah for his outstanding performance at the Red Chambers and immediately afterwards absconded from the meeting being held by his kinsmen in the community townhall.
When the achievement of the incumbent senator was reeled out by the organisers, even Azubogu could not help but applaud him.
Immediately thereafter, he gave a brief complimentary speech to Ifeanyi Ubah, as well as his kinsmen, rose up and announced his departure.
Efforts by Ubah and other attendees to get his to stay back while the meeting lasted proved abortive as he immediately vacated the premises.

An observer, who was an eyewitness, narrated the event as follows:
“The saying that the Ijele shares his stage with no other masquerade was on full display at the Umudim community meeting (Azubogu is from Umudim).
Soundbites from the meeting
President General Umudim said: “Na nwoke na ibe ya ha bu na onu (That a man is equals in capacity to his contemporaries is mere rhetoric), Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, you have indeed done very well for our people. We are filled in awe as we watched the quality of construction works you are doing in this Obi Umudim.”
Hon Chris Azubogu also said: “Senator Ubah, you have done very well. Ask them, before you came, I had applauded you for the huge construction going on in this Obi.”
“The biblical Judas, gripped by guilty conscience, then stands and absconds from his own community meeting despite the fact that the Ijele gave him express permission to sit back and watch him perform.
“His kinsmen burst out in laughter amidst side talks on what degree of guilt could make a man abandon his own homestead for a visitor
“While they go about spreading lies and propaganda and claiming audio roads that exist only on graphic designs, we operate strictly on the principles of #Gosimkamfunanya.
“The question on everyone’s lip is: What level of wickedness can drive a man like Azubogu to enter into evil collabo with another from Uga in Aguata to sell his benefactor that helped him enjoy three terms undisturbed in order to deny him second term by seeking to reduce his bloc vote in Nnewi and by so doing help the Aguata man to win
“Unfortunately, Chris Azubogu is not properly informed as ndi Aguata are warming up to give their bloc vote to Senator Dr Ifeanyi Ubah in appreciation of the two hospitals (in Ekwulobia and Uga), transformers, houses for the poor /elderly, deep water solar boreholes, streetlights in the entire wards in Aguata LG, etc. that he has facilitated in Aguata Local Government in mere 3 years at the Red Chambers
“Indeed, when the righteous and contented is in power, the people truly rejoice. The Consolidation votes will come with landslide victory in the entire 7 local government areas.
“Our Ijele, Senator, Dr. Ifeanyichukwu Ubah, [who] is going to the 10th Senate as a returning Senator, has excess capacity.
“It is the turn of Ndi Anambra South Senatorial District to shine again in the next dispensation.”
Another drama involving Azubogu happened during another Umudim Community townhall.
Our correspondent, Mr. Eneh Victor Chigozie, who monitored the event, in a piece entitled “After 12 Years Of Deceit, Azubogu Got Busted“, narrates:
“We have consistently told ndi Anambra south that Hon Chris Emeka Azubogu is only living on propaganda, claiming projects he didn’t do and where he did they were all substandard.
“It manifested yesterday when he took his campaigns to Umudim Nnewi.
“While he was speaking to them, they asked him to name the projects he attracted to the community in his 12 years at the House of Representatives. At that time, it dawned on him that trouble had begun.
“He then knelt down to beg them for forgiveness for his poor performance in his 12 years at the House of Reps and for not attracting any project to the community.
“If you listen carefully at the background of this video, you will hear the voice of a woman saying “what of the money, he is leaving without telling us or bringing the money.”
“I am happy that ndi Nnewi, especially ndi Umudim, have seen the real identity of Azubogu. You cannot get everything through lies, propaganda and deceit.
“He has deceived the people enough and they are waiting for him at the polling units.”
