Ohio Billionaire, Connor, Plans To Visit Titanic In $20M Submersible

Nearly a year after the tragic implosion of the OceanGate Titan submersible, Larry Connor, a real estate investor and Ohio billionaire, is planning to take a deep-sea submersible to the Titanic site to prove the industry’s safety. Connor, along with Triton Submarines co-founder Patrick Lahey, will embark on a journey to the shipwreck site, located over 12,400 feet below the surface.

Connor aims to demonstrate that the ocean can be “wonderful and enjoyable” if approached correctly, despite the risks. The duo will use a $20 million vessel, the Triton 4000/2 Abyssal Explorer, designed by Lahey, which can withstand the pressure of the deep sea.

The expedition comes after the OceanGate Titan submersible imploded in June, resulting in the loss of five lives, including OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush. Connor was inspired to take on the challenge after the tragedy, urging Lahey to build a better submersible.

While the exact date of the voyage has not been announced, Connor is determined to show that the industry can learn from past mistakes and improve safety standards.

The Triton 4000/2 Abyssal Explorer is a state-of-the-art vessel, designed to withstand the extreme conditions of the deep sea.

Lahey has spent over a decade perfecting the design, and Connor believes that the technology and materials used in its construction make it possible to carry out the voyage safely and repeatedly.

Connor’s expedition aims to honor the memory of those lost in the OceanGate tragedy while also pushing the boundaries of human exploration and discovery.

The voyage will be a testament to the power of innovation and determination in overcoming adversity.
