on

A devastating building collapse occurred on Lagos Island on Thursday, leaving an unknown number of people trapped beneath the rubble.

The incident took place at Iga Iduganran, near the Oba of Lagos’ palace, and has sparked a massive rescue operation.

According to the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotosho, eight people have been rescued so far, while efforts are ongoing to retrieve two others from the debris.

The building, which had been marked for evacuation by the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), collapsed suddenly, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

This tragic incident comes less than a week after a similar building collapse in the Papa Ajao area of Lagos State, which claimed the lives of an 11-year-old girl and three others.

The recurring incidents of building collapses in Lagos have raised concerns about the safety of structures in the state and the need for stricter regulations and enforcement.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has deployed its officials to the scene, who are working tirelessly to rescue those trapped and provide medical assistance to those injured.

The agency has also launched an investigation into the cause of the collapse, which is expected to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the incident.

As the rescue operation continues, concerns are mounting about the safety of buildings in Lagos and the need for urgent action to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.

The Lagos State Government has been called upon to take decisive action to address the issue of building collapses, which have become all too frequent in the state.
