Nigerian Athlete Wins Inaugural Rivers Marathon, Takes Home $10m Prize

In a thrilling conclusion to the maiden Rivers State Marathon, Plateau State-born athlete Gyang Nyango emerged victorious in the 45km Elite Race, clinching the gold medal and a staggering $10m prize.

Nyango completed the race in an impressive 2 hours, 28 minutes, and 29 seconds.

Kenyan athlete Peninah Arusei dominated the female category, finishing first with a time of 2 hours, 48 minutes, and 23 seconds, also securing a $10m prize.

Iliya Pam Nwanta and Isti Fanus Peter Maham, both from Plateau State, claimed the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Rivers State Governor Sir Siminialayi Fubara announced a complimentary award of N1m to the top 20 athletes behind the gold medal winners, aiming to encourage future participation.

In a lighter moment, Governor Fubara won the 30-meter race, while his wife, Lady Valerie, took second place.

The event showcased Nigerian and international athletes, promoting athletic excellence and unity.
