Again DSS disregards order to produce Nnamdi Kanu in court

The Directorate of State Security [DSS] has, for the umpteenth time, disregarded a court order to produce Mr. Nnamdi Kanu in court.

Mr. Kanu is the director of Radio Biafra London and a leader of Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB).

At the resumed hearing of the case, a visibly angry Chief Magistrate, Shuaibu Usman of the Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Wuse II, Abuja, ordered the DSS to unfailingly produce Nnamdi Kanu before him next week Monday, being November 23.

Chief Magistrate Usman had earlier ordered that Mazi Kanu be produced before his court, an order which the DSS flagrantly ignored.

Counsel to the DSS signified intention to file some applications to amend the charges against Mr. Kanu but the Chief Magistrate disallowed it, saying that no further proceedings should continue on the matter unless Kanu is produced in his court.

Kanu had on 19th October, 205 been granted bail under the most stringent conditions, which he met less than 24 hours but the DSS had refused to release him.

The DSS had also refused to produce him before the court despite several orders by the court to that effect.

Consequent upon the seeming impunity, protesters took way across the South-East and South-South, demanding an unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu.

In another development, however, the  South East Governors Forum, SEGF, summoned an emergency meeting of Igbo leaders to discuss the persisting protests by members of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, which have paralysed economic activities in the old Eastern region.

They meanwhile, advised MASSOB/IPOB to continue to toe the line of peace as this is the only way to ensure economic development of the zone.
