A tragic incident has occurred in Zambia, where a US tourist 64-year-old Juliana Gle Tourneau from New Mexico, was killed by an elephant in the city of Livingstone on Wednesday.

This is the second fatal elephant attack on a tourist in Zambia this year.

According to local officials, Tourneau was part of a group that had stopped near the Maramba Cultural Bridge due to traffic caused by an elephant herd.

Suddenly, one of the elephants attacked their vehicle, threw Tourneau out, and trampled her.

Southern Province Police Commissioner Auxensio Daka confirmed the incident to the Zambian national broadcaster, ZNBC. “Juliana Gle Tourneau, 64, of New Mexico, United States of America, died on Wednesday around 17:50 after being knocked from a parked vehicle which had stopped due to traffic caused by elephants around the Maramba Cultural Bridge,” he said.

This incident comes after another American tourist was killed in March this year during a game drive in a Zambian national park.

An elephant had charged at the truck, flipping it over and killing the tourist, while injuring five others.

Zambian authorities have urged tourists to exercise extreme caution while observing wildlife in the country.

The incident highlights the importance of prioritizing safety and respecting wild animals’ boundaries.
