How I Almost Died, Nigerian Singer Crayon Recounts

Crayon, the talented singer and Mavin Records signee, has bravely shared his heart-wrenching story of struggles with public acceptance, health issues, and a near-death experience.

In a recent episode of the podcast “Drip Check,” Crayon opened up about his dark days in the music industry, his battle with depression, and a miraculous turning point that almost cost him his life.

According to Crayon, 2020 was one of his darkest years in the industry. Despite releasing seven songs back-to-back, none of them gained significant traction.

He had high hopes for his song “Gbona,” but the COVID-19 pandemic struck, forcing clubs and venues to shut down, and the song’s momentum stalled. Crayon continued to release music, but the lack of public acceptance took a toll on his mental health, leading to depression.

“I dropped about seven songs and no one gained traction. I remember when I dropped ‘Gbona,’ it was about to take off then COVID-19 struck and everything shut down. And ‘Gbona’ was a club banger. I dropped the video, but it still didn’t pick up. I was dropping songs biweekly,” he recalled.

Fast forward to 2022, Crayon faced an even greater challenge when he had a breakdown that almost cost him his life. He described this period as a miraculous turning point, emphasizing that people rarely recover from such episodes.

“I had a breakdown in early 2022. People don’t come back from that sh*t, me standing right here now is a miracle. I almost lost my life,” he added.
