A governorship aspirant, Dr. Nicholas Felix, over the weekend, gave out petrol to residents in Benin City, Edo State, free of charge.
Our correspondent in the state met people gathered in a filing station, DVD Oil at Ramat Park, where he went to buy fuel over the weekend.
Upon enquiry, he was told that someone, who is contesting the upcoming governorship election in Edo State, has paid for the fuel.
He saw a poster pasted on one of the pumps with a telephone number on it and taking a closer look, discovered that the donor, Dr. Nicholas Felix, is the governorship aspirant.

Calls made to the attached phone number went unanswered and he decided to drop a WhatsApp message to the number and soon got a response.
His campaign organisation described him as a politician, mentor, life coach, author, great achiever, APC youngest presidential aspirant, former presidential candidate PCP/3rd place winner of 2019 general election and Edo 2024 governorship aspirant.
When consulted, an economic analyst with News Band noted that it should not be a surprise as petrol fuel has suddenly become “gold”.
It could be recalled that President Bola Tinubu had, less than twenty-four hours after inauguration, removed fuel subsidy which shot the price of petrol up across the nation.
In Abuja, petrol price went from N195 per litre to N54o per litre, almost three-fold the price earlier at filling stations.
It is even worse at the black market where petrol sells for as high as N700 per litre. Read more.
