Cameroon has taken proactive steps to mitigate the risk of a COVID-19 resurgence, reintroducing key measures to safeguard the country from the recent uptick in cases observed in various parts of the world.

The Cameroonian government has announced a series of precautions to prevent the spread of the virus, effective immediately.

All travelers arriving from foreign countries will be required to fill out identification forms at airports, while testing will be prioritized for those returning from the pilgrimage to Mecca.

The move comes as a precautionary measure to detect potential cases and provide prompt treatment.

In addition to testing, the government has reinstated several measures that were previously implemented during the peak of the pandemic.

These include mandatory mask-wearing for individuals exhibiting flu-like symptoms, enhanced hand hygiene protocols, and regular disinfection of public areas.

The Cameroonian government has assured citizens that it has the necessary capacity to detect cases and provide free medical care throughout the country.

This move aims to reassure the public and demonstrate the government’s commitment to containing the spread of COVID-19, Diaspora Digital Media understands.

Cameroon has a history of dealing with COVID-19, having recorded its first case in March 2020.

According to the Ministry of Public Health, the pandemic has claimed 1,974 lives out of over 120,000 infections in the country.
