Governor Uzodimma backs local vigilante groups in Imo State

The Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma has announced his support for local vigilante groups in the state.

Governor Uzodimma made the announcement to Ndi Eze and other stakeholders with a one million Naira support for each of the 655 Autonomous Communities in the state,

This, he said, will enable them establish or reinforce their Vigilante groups.

This announcement followed a proposal from the Ministry of Homeland Security and Vigilante Affairs (MOHSAVA) in the state EXCO on Wednesday, July 26, 2023.

Termed a Web of Community-based Vigilante Groups (CVGs), the proposal is designed to augment the efforts of federal and state security agencies in mitigating security challenges in the state.

The Governor’s announcement was meant to invigorate Imo State communities’ efforts in self-protection.

According to Commissioner Ugorji Okechukwu Ugorji of the ministry, the Governor’s announcement is congruent with MOHSAVA’s whole-of-community plan for security in Imo State. Read more.
