The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is facing disqualification by the Governorship Election Tribunal for reportedly submitting a fake West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) certificate to the Independent national Electoral Commission (INEC) in 2019.
Facts of the forgery were exposed before the Tribunal by the legal team of the Lagos State Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate, Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.
Speaking to newsmen after the adoption of final motions last week, Rhodes-Vivour’s counsel said that the matter was not only presented before the Tribunal but proven beyond any shadow of doubt.
Moreover, INEC testified before the court that the WAEC certificate (GCE) submitted by Sanwo-Olu in first term is the same as the one submitted in the second term.
Also, the master list of the secondary school in Ijebu Ifé where Sanwo-Olu claimed to have attended was subpoenaed and brought to court by WAEC with his missing.
An observer said in reaction: “It has been proved at the tribunal that Babajide Sanwo-Olu submitted a fake certificate which is tantamount to perjury.
“If Sanwo-Olu is not disqualified at the Tribunal, then it can be rightly assumed that the judges took fix!”
