Air Force abandons kidnapped young personnel waiting deployment to Niger

UPDATE:

The Nigeria Air Force (NAF) has finally got in touch with this soldier’s family for the first time since he was kidnapped, News Band has been informed.

However, it was gathered that instead of giving them information or reassurance, they harassed the poor family for speaking to the media.

The military agency is yet to disclose their game plan towards the release of the young officer.

The Nigeria Air Force (NAF) has been accused of abandoning a young personnel, ACM Shuaibu Umar Bashir, who is currently waiting for deployment to Niger Republic but was kidnapped by armed bandits.

This was disclosed in a WhatsApp chat with a journalist, David Hundeyin, by a relative of ACM Bashir.

The relative said in the chat that the Air Force personnel was kidnapped along Birnin Gwari road in Niger State and that a N10 million ransom demand was made by his abductors.

He further disclosed that a 72-hour deadline was made, failure of which they might harm or kill him.

The unidentified relative lamented that the military has refused to engage with his family to strategise on how to rescue the young officer.

According to him, Umar Bashir was going back to station to resume his duty when he was kidnapped.

Meanwhile, he has been mobilized for deployment to Niger Republic as soon as the order to move is given.

Having failed to get the sympathy of the authorities, the relative asked for the help of the media so that the military would live up to their responsibility respecting the yound man.
