The Nigerian Customs Service has made a significant seizure of illegal arms and military hardware at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

The shipment, which originated from Turkey, included 55 pieces of unassembled semi-automatic shotguns, 148 drones, 172 ballistic vests, and other military and paramilitary items.

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, announced the seizure, stating that it was made possible through credible intelligence and diligent examination of consignments.

The total duty value of the seized items is N1.56 billion.

One suspect has been arrested in connection with the illegal importation, and the items will be handed over to the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons for further investigation and prosecution.

This seizure is the second in 48 hours, following the interception of 844 rifles and 112,500 rounds of ammunition at the Onne Port in Port Harcourt on Monday.

The Customs Service has reiterated its commitment to securing national frontiers and fostering national security.
