Unidentified gunmen have kidnapped Major General RC Duru (rtd) in Orji area of Owerri, the Imo State capital of Nigeria.
According to local authorities, General Duru was kidnapped late Wednesday, few hours before the South East Security and Economic Summit which held in the same Owerri capital city.
Duri was reportedly driving himself in a Mercedes Benz 450 ML jeep when the gunmen numbering four in a Toyota Sienna pounced on him.
Police sources said that the kidnappers went with him and his vehicle to an unknown destination which was later tracked to Mbaitoli in Imo State before it was switched off.
News Band has, meanwhile, been authoritatively informed that his abductors have contacted his family using his personal phone number — 08033567459.
“Efforts are ongoing to locate the kidnappers and rescue the rtd General.
“All are requested to make efforts using all contacts (though discretely) to hasten return of the kidnapped General.
“Maj Gen Duru is a member of 33rd Regular and NDC 18,” police sources said.
Anambra and Imo states have witnessed some of the deadly attacks in the region.
