Labour Party berates Ajufo, Nwaokobia, Asekome, ors over calls for Abure’s resignation
Labour Party (LP) has warned its members, including Diokpa Delly Ajufo, Zariyi Yusuf, Hon. Keftin Amuga, Dr. Peter Piper, Igwe K.C, Tony Magnifiquedude Asekome, Alhaji Audie Mohammed, Prof Chris Mustapha Nwaokobia Jnr., and the various bodies they represent, to desist from “destructive criticism” of Labour Party National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure.
The party issued the warning in a statement issued on November 14, 2023, and signed by the Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Obiora Ifoh, and entitled “Post-election: Avoid destructive criticism, join in rebuilding, Labour Party warns“.
Mr. Ifo drew attention to a social media publication titled “Time Up Julius Abure, We Demand A Labour Party That Must Stand For The Masses Of Our People“, authored and signed by the above mentioned persons.
Ifo noted that the signatories are not card-carrying members of the party, hence wondered their interest to vilify the Abure leadership and destroy the facts of humongous achievements made by the present leadership in so short a time.
He lamented that the allegations “conjured” are purely for the purpose of slander and muckraking, myopic and baseless.
“A cursory look at the authors of the statement will reveal their ignorance on the workings of the party, the party constitution, the electoral act and the 1999 constitution as amended.
“Being new joiners and not knowing the culture of the party (some of them just a few months old in the party) of course, that’s what you get when ignorance and overzealousness overwhelm your reasoning.
“Most of those who authored the statement did not even win their units let alone winning their Local Government and State.
“It is on record that most members of the National Working Committee of the party delivered their units and their states. Barrister Julius Abure, for instance, scored 79 percent in Edo state, thereby denying other political parties the opportunity of scoring the required 25 percent in the state,” Ifo stated.
He, therefore, responded to the allegations leverlled against Abure as follows:
- On the allegation that the leadership of the party has not been able to translate to success the support given by the members of the party and the Obidient Movement. It is pertinent to state categorically that this would be the first time in the history of the Labour Party to have contested vigorously in a presidential election. Yet, after all the manipulations of the result, Labour Party won 12 states in the Presidential election, One governorship seat, 8 seats in the Senate, 35 seats at the Federal House of Representatives and numerous other seats in the State Houses of Assembly. This is also the first time, the Labour Party will be a major political force to be reckoned with and as at today in Nigeria, going by INEC’s records and the performances of the various political parties, Labour Party can best be described as the Third Force in Nigeria and these achievements were recorded by the party within five months, the shortest possible time in the history of political parties in Nigeria.
- On the allegation that Labour Party has become a transactional party. This again shows the high level of ignorance exhibited by the authors of that statement. Perhaps, if they have said so before the assumption of office by Barrister Abure, it may have been understood. But under the present leadership, the team has been committed to the growth and development of the party. We will not bother them with several offers that were made and rejected by Abure leadership in other to build, consolidate and make Labour Party a truly alternative political party that it has become today.
- On the allusion that the owners of the party are being distanced from the party. We want to state clearly that this would be the first time that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) will be enjoying a cordial and harmonious relationship with the party. It will interest you to know that towards the preparation to the 2023 general election, both NLC and TUC had a summit in conjunction with the Labour Party where they came up with the modus operandi on how to work together for the purpose of that election. Unknown to the authors of the statement, over 50 members of the Organised Labour were members of the National Campaign Council at various levels including the directorate of Labour Services headed by a former President of the TUC, Olaleye Quadri. They equally participated in all the campaigns across the states through their state councils, and their representatives in the campaign council. Both NLC and TUC have active representations in the National Working Committee of the party and they are still serving as Deputy National Chairmen as mandated by the constitution of the party. There is no doubt that the Labour Party enjoys a cordial and harmonious working relationship with the NLC and TUC.
- On the allegation that money exchanged hands during the Imo state party governorship primaries. We state categorically that it is unknown to the leadership of the party that money exchanged hands during the party primaries in Imo state. Be it known that the leadership of the party was committed to free, fair and credible primaries that produced the most competent candidate for the party. The said primary election was televised live on national Television and this ensured its competitiveness and credibility. The party members in the state made their choice and the party national leadership stood by their choice. The authors of the statement would have preferred a certain aspirant, who having lost in the primaries went ahead to pick the ticket of another party. While the Labour Party candidate came third as announced by INEC, the authors’ preferred choice struggled from behind thus rubbishing their popularity hypothesis. The outcome of the election has shown very clearly that distinguished Senator Athan Achonu is very popular and was the best choice for the party.
- On the allusion that the leadership of the party compromised as alleged by our governorship candidate in Bayelsa state. The party has since addressed the matter as the allegation was frivolous and unsubstantiated. It also shows that the authors of the statement truly do not follow the activities of the party. It clearly shows that they are not abreast with the responses of the party. The leadership of the party did not compromise and did not enter into any understanding with any other candidate in Bayelsa State governorship election. Labour Party had in the past disciplined some of its members who engaged in activities that are unwholesome. For instance, the Rivers state executive committee was dissolved over their sharp practices during the last general election. Former National Publicity Secretary Abayomi Arabambi, former Youth Leader Anselem Eragbe and some others were suspended for carrying out nefarious activities. This current leadership is above board and we are therefore embarrassed that the authors could make such statement.
- On the court judgement which they alleged terminated the tenure of the current National Working Committee. The leadership of the Labour Party is not aware of such judgement. As you are aware, court judgements are not procured from the back door. We have not being in any litigation in which judgment has been giving that has terminated the tenure of the current National Working Committee. This again shows the high level of ignorance of the authors of the Statement as it relates to the constitution of the party, the electoral act and the 1999 constitution. Again the constitution of the party empowers the National Executive Council of the party to extend the tenure of the National Working Committee if it is impracticable to hold the National Convention. When the tenure of the current executive expired earlier this year, NEC in its wisdom concluded that because of the plethora of cases in the courts, and having just concluded the general election, it was inexpedient to hold the National Convention hence the tenure of the current executive was extended by one year. In the past, NEC had also extended the tenure of the NWC particularly in 2013 and 2018 respectively. It is a standard practice in Nigeria and it is also constitutional.
- On the fact that Edo state is Obidient and therefore requires a proactive leadership to win Edo governorship election. The leadership of the party agrees that Edo state is Obidient but this was as a result of the hard work, commitment and the leadership style of the National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure who is not only from the state but has been coordinating all the activities of both the Labour Party and Obidient movement in the state. His leadership style has made the party very attractive to everyone in the state. Therefore, if there is any person or persons who should drive the 2024 Edo Guber election activities, it should be the current National Working Committee ably led by Barrister Julius Abure.
In conclusion, Ifo admonished the authors of the statement that it is better to be a good follower because it is only those who are good followers that can be good leaders tomorrow.
“It is very clear that the characteristics that they have chosen to exhibit appears to suggest that they may never be good leaders when such opportunities present themselves someday.
“It is also natural that after every electoral contest, a few individuals may be disgruntled or aggrieved and as such the party leadership may be exposed to all forms of criticism by both members and nonmembers alike, but we advise that such criticism must be tailored to aid growth and development in the party, and not necessarily to be destructive.”
Labour Party has had its fair share of intra-crisis and we think that members should desist from escalating further crisis,” he stressed.
He, therefore, expressed great concern for members to “threaten the very fabric that holds the party together” and encouraged them to be obligated to the party and be guided by party’s rules.
As the party prepares to drive for membership across the nation, Ifo urged everyone, including the authors of the statement to formalise their membership of the Party by registering at their wards and help the party grow.
Reacting to the development, the State Chairman of the Delta State chapter of the Labour Party, Hon. Vincent Okwuokei, expressed angst against “the obnoxious publication of some purported elders requesting for the resignation of the National chairman of labour party, Barr. Julius Abure”.
Addressing the authors of the said publication, Hon. Okwuokei, stated unequivocally that the following signatories from Delta state, in persons of Diokpa Delly Ajufo, Dr. Peter Piper, Prof. Chris Mustapha Nwaokobia, are not registered member of Labour Party Delta State and as such not in position to speak on behalf of Labour Party Delta State.
He, thereby, advised the general public to discountenance whatever publication emanated from them and their cohorts.
Okwuokei also strongly advised the concerned to drop their ambition and join the existing executives both at the national and state level to build the party to a glorious standard.

Why Penis Size Does Not Affect Performance, Fertility — Experts

For countless men, penis size stirs deep anxiety fed by social media, locker-room banter, and pressure from adult content.
But sex experts and urologists agree: size rarely determines sexual function or fertility.
In a revealing conversation with PUNCH Healthwise, clinical sexologist Cecilia Agu and consultant urologist Dr. Gabriel Ogah broke down the myths emphasizing emotional connection, overall health, and sperm quality as far more meaningful indicators of sexual well-being.
Sexual Satisfaction Lies Beyond Size
Agu, who specializes in human sexology, has heard the insecurities countless times. Yet she insists that the fixation on size overshadows what truly matters in intimate relationships.
“Women value intimacy, chemistry, and creativity not centimeters,” she explained, her tone both compassionate and pragmatic.
“In most cases, size doesn’t determine performance or biological capacity. Only rare, clinically significant conditions impact size.”
She points to societal myths that equate larger size with virility.
“Historic portrayals in art and literature, and today’s media, amplify stereotypes. Pornography exaggerates, turning a normal variation into unreasonable expectations.”
Agu also cautioned against the booming market selling “enhancement” remedies.
“That industry profits off insecurity peddling pills, gadgets, and herbal supplements with no proven benefit.
The real dilemma lies in emotional weariness, not physical deficiency.”
She acknowledged true medical conditions like micropenis, often linked to hormonal or genetic causes but emphasized their rarity.
“Anyone worried about hormonal imbalances or developmental issues should seek professional evaluation,” she advised.
“Fertility Is Unrelated to Size” Dr. Gabriel Ogah
Dr. Ogah, a respected urologist, offered a no-nonsense medical perspective on the fertility question.
“A small penis doesn’t reduce a man’s ability to impregnate a woman,” he stated firmly.
“If sperm is healthy and ejaculation occurs, fertilization can happen.”
He added that many young men consult him out of anxiety sparked by unrealistic comparisons.
“Almost always, their size falls within healthy norms. It’s undue stress, fueled by exposure to distorted media portrayals.”
Dr. Ogah also debunked the idea that older men can “restore” diminishing function through enhancement products.
“As absurd as it sounds, many try. But no pill or serum can permanently alter anatomy.
These are myths masquerading as solutions.”
So What Truly Matters?
Both experts agree: prioritizing overall health, emotional intimacy, and stress-free communication far outweighs anxiety over size.
Agu stressed that sex is about connection, not metrics. “Being nervous about measurements sets couples up for dissatisfaction.
But when you focus on pleasure, emotional safety, and experimentation, the experience transforms.”
Dr. Ogah echoed this, emphasizing regular health check-ups. “Good cardiovascular health, balanced hormones, and mental well-being are key. Size doesn’t affect that.”
Dispelling the Myths, Sustaining the Confidence
As myths dissolve under scientific clarity, a bigger concern emerges: how do we nurture a culture free of body shaming? Agu proposed educational steps.
“We should teach young people that anatomy varies. Performance is multi-dimensional. Communication trumps comparison every time.”
Dr. Ogah endorsed that sentiment. “Let’s shift the narrative. Appreciate function over form. Listen to your body, and care for it through healthy living.”
Performance Isn’t About Inches
Size remains largely irrelevant when partners are emotionally in sync, focused on connection, and attuned to shared pleasure.
Fertility hinges on sperm health not size.
Medical concerns like micropenis are rare, but deserve medical evaluation.
Media, culture, and marketing distort reality. Let’s counter that with facts.
Confidence and sexual well-being stem from health, honesty, and intimacy not obsession with size.
In the end, as Agu beautifully summed up, “It’s not the size it’s how you share it.” That truth holds far more value than any number on a measuring tape.

I’m Not Desperate to Be President – Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has said he is more interested in building a better Nigeria than in becoming president at all costs.
Atiku made this known on Saturday during an affirmation ceremony in Lagos for new defectors to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The event saw several political heavyweights from the PDP and Labour Party officially announce their defection to the ADC.
The former PDP candidate, who recently resigned from the party along with other opposition politicians, formally joined the ADC in what he described as a “movement for national renewal.”
Speaking at the event, Atiku said his focus was not personal ambition but the pursuit of a safer, stronger, and more prosperous Nigeria.
“Atiku Abubakar’s plan is to build a better Nigeria,” said Olateju, who spoke on behalf of Atiku.
“It’s not about him being president at all costs. It’s about having a government that can truly deliver for Nigerians.”
According to him, the ADC should not be seen merely as a political party but as a movement dedicated to national transformation.
“It’s no longer politics as usual. This is a new beginning for Nigeria, and that’s what Atiku is championing,” he added.
Atiku further noted that the removal of fuel subsidy and rising inflation have left many Nigerians struggling.
He stressed that only good leadership could deliver lasting solutions.
He also said the coalition was confident that God would use them to bring meaningful change to Nigeria.
On who would likely emerge as the ADC presidential candidate in 2027, Atiku insisted the choice would be left to party members.
“Whoever emerges through a free and fair contest, we will all support. We are not imposing anyone,” he said.
“The point is not Atiku for president at all costs, or Obi for president at all costs. The point is Nigeria.
Whoever picks the ticket will represent the collective voice and aspirations of the Nigerian people,” he added.
Prominent defectors present at the event included PDP Board of Trustees member Dr. Abimbola Ogunkelu; former Lagos PDP chairmen Chief Muritala Ashorobi and Retired Capt. Tunji Shelle; PDP Vice Chairman (Lagos Central); and former PDP Youth Leader Mr. Tai Benedict, among others.
They were received by top ADC leaders, including National Secretary Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Senator Kolawole Ogunwale, and Lagos State Chairman George Ashiru.

Tinubu govt seeks $238m loan from Japan

The Federal Government is currently in discussions with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to secure a $238 million loan aimed at transforming Nigeria’s electricity transmission network and boosting power supply across the nation.
These discussions took center stage during the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), held in Yokohama, Japan, where President Bola Tinubu led Nigerian delegation, including Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu and other senior officials.
As part of the event, the Nigerian delegation engaged with top Japanese energy giants like Toshiba, Hitachi, Japan’s Transmission & Distribution Corporation, and Energy Exchange Corporation.
The discussions focused on major investments in transmission infrastructure, improving grid efficiency, and reducing system losses.
This proposed facility is anchored on Nigeria’s recent Federal Executive Council (FEC) approval of ₦19 billion in counterpart funding, which is expected to unlock JICA’s support.
The loan will fund the construction of nearly 103 kilometers of 330kV double-circuit transmission lines and 105 kilometers of 132kV double-circuit lines, along with multiple substations and line bay extensions across the country.
These upgrades aim to enhance the reliability and efficiency of Nigeria’s power grid while addressing critical system losses.
Minister Adebayo Adelabu also shared that Nigeria is pursuing a separate $190 million renewable energy loan with JICA to scale solar mini-grids and other off-grid solutions in underserved communities.
This initiative complements the $750 million World Bank-backed Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-up (DARES) program under the Mission 300 Compact, which seeks to provide clean and reliable electricity to over 17 million Nigerians.
Additionally, three JICA-funded substations—located in Apo (FCT), Keffi (Nasarawa State), and Apapa (Lagos State)—are nearing commissioning. Built with a $32 million JICA grant, these facilities are set to improve power delivery to homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure, such as Lagos Port.
JICA’s contributions extend beyond infrastructure. The organization has equipped the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN) in Abuja with cutting-edge training tools to enhance the technical expertise of local engineers.
Minister Adelabu highlighted the importance of this facility in fostering long-term sustainability through capacity development.
While speaking at a panel session titled “HICKARE Africa: Harnessing Innovation, Co-creation, and Knowledge for Accessible and Resilient Energy for Africa”, Adelabu pointed out that only about 60 percent of Nigeria’s 200 million citizens currently have access to electricity, much of which is unreliable.
He emphasized the government’s dual approach of expanding the national grid in urban areas while accelerating solar and off-grid solutions in rural communities.
Despite challenges such as limited access to affordable capital, high costs for rural electrification, and the under-utilization of productive-use equipment, Adelabu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to overcoming these obstacles through supportive policies, private-sector partnerships, and local manufacturing of renewable energy components.
He praised JICA and the Japanese government as “reliable partners in advancing Nigeria’s energy transition” and ensuring access to sustainable, affordable electricity.
President Tinubu echoed this sentiment, underscoring Nigeria’s focus on achieving concrete results from international partnerships.
“Nigeria is deliberately shifting from planning to implementation, from agreements to delivery, and from promises to measurable results”, he stated, emphasizing that the country’s participation at TICAD 9 was about creating real impact, not symbolic gestures.
