Nigeria ranks lowest in global Diabetes disease rate

Nigeria has been ranked lowest in the number of Diabetes disease patients globally, according to International Diabetes Federation, Diabetes Atlas.

This was contained in a report published by World of Statistics on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, which indicated percentage of people aged between 20 and 79 who have type 1 or type 2 diabetes.

The report shows that Pakistan, Kuwait and Egypt are the top three countries with highest Diabetes disease patients globally with 30.8%, 24.9% and 20.9% respectively.

Nigeria at 186th has only 3.6% Diabetes patients; Kenya is 183rd with 4%, while Ethiopia ranked 169th with 5%.

Reacting to the report, Fact Protocol, an AI and Web3 based decentralized fact-checking system that prides itself in combating fake news and misinformation, and founded by Mohith Agadi, followed up with number of people with diabetes in various countries.

Fact Protocol reported that China, India and Pakistan top the list of diabetic patients.
