Following the spates of anti-immigration violence in the United Kingdom over the recent killing of three little girls at a concert, the federal government has warned Nigerians travelling to the country to be vigilant.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja on Monday, August 5, in a statement signed by Ambassador Eche Abu-Obe, said that the violence had assumed ‘dangerous proportions’ in the last one day.
The ambassador advised Nigerians in the UK to be extra vigilant and refrain from processions, protests and rallies of a political nature.
He also advised them to be self-aware at all times and avoid crowded areas and large gatherings.
The UK has been rocked by a series of violent protests by youths dissatisfied with the influx of immigrants into the country.
It is believed that a false narrative that an illegal immigrant seeking asylum in the UK was responsible for the killing of three girls at a party a few days ago.
While the perpetrator of the killings is black, he is a citizen of UK. Not many of the protesters know the truth or care about it as they chant slogans to the effect that Muslim immigrants should leave their country.
There have been clashes with immigrant communities and individuals of colour and security operatives are struggling to address the crisis.
