Man dies after jumping into company’s iron melting pot

A 25-year-old contract worker whose identity remains unknown, reportedly jumped into an iron melting pot at his workplace in Lagos State which resulted to his unfortunate death.

The spokesman of Lagos State police command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the incident.

He said that the safety officer at the company reported the incident to the Sagamu Road Police Division on August 3 at around 6pm.

The incident occurred at a company located in the Industrial Scheme of the Odogunyan area in Ikorodu.

On the same day, around 3:15 p.m., the contract staff member, who was part of the AOD Section of the company, allegedly ran towards the iron melting pot, a restricted area during operations.

Despite frantic attempts of his colleagues to stop him, he jumped into the pot, where he was entirely consumed by the molten iron.

Police detectives have visited the scene, and the deceased’s family has been notified. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic event is currently underway.
