A woman and her granddaughter have been crushed to death by an Iveco truck in the Papalanto area of Ewekoro local government of Ogun State
The unfortunate incident, which occurred on Friday morning, involved an Iveco Truck with the license plate KJA 166 XJ and a tricycle bearing the registration number TRE 627 V
Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesman for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), reported that the crash was caused by reckless driving on the part of the truck driver.
Four individuals were involved in the incident, two males and two females, with the two female passengers losing their lives.
He explained that the truck driver attempted to overtake the tricycle while both vehicles were heading towards Abeokuta.
In the process, the truck collided with the tricycle, causing it to topple and fall in front of the truck, which then ran over it, killing the grandmother and granddaughter instantly.
The truck driver fled the scene before authorities could apprehend him.
TRACE spokesman also mentioned that the families of the deceased have claimed the bodies, while the injured tricycle driver was taken to an undisclosed hospital by a passerby. Both vehicles involved in the crash have been taken to the Itori Divisional Police Command.
While extending their condolences to the bereaved families, TRACE and the police once again urged motorists to avoid dangerous driving, emphasizing the severe consequences of such actions.
