Why no opposition can remove Tinubu in 2027 – Lukman

A former member of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Salihu Lukman has said President Bola Tinubu will not be removed from power by any opposition party in the 2027 elections.

Lukman in a statement on Monday, cited internal crises within opposition parties as the primary reason for their weakened position.

He pointed out that the major opposition parties are currently enmeshed in serious internal squabbles, which have undermined their effectiveness and unity.

He highlighted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where leaders are reportedly at odds with the party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Also, Mr Peter Obi of the Labour Party is said to be struggling with a leadership crisis that threatens the party’s stability, while Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is overseeing a fractured New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), which Lukman describes as being torn apart by its own leaders.

Lukman further criticized other smaller parties, such as the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), for adopting what he termed a “monarchic” attitude.

According to him, these parties are merely waiting in their “comfort zones” for disillusioned leaders from other opposition parties to seek their support, rather than actively working to build a strong political movement.

Meanwhile, Lukman’s assessment suggests that unless these opposition parties can resolve their internal disputes and present a united front, they are unlikely to pose a serious challenge to Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
