Senator Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Senate, on Wednesday, cautioned one of his colleagues, Senator Osita Ngwu, for complimenting Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu’s beauty during a ministerial screening on the floor of the red carpet chamber.
Bianca, like six other ministerial nominees screened by the Senate, read her credentials before the Senate and was subsequently interrogated by the lawmakers.
She was screened for the post of Minister of State Foreign Affairs.
When Akpabio opened the floor for questions, Ngwu, who currently serves as the Senator representing Enugu West Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly, started by commending Bianca’s beauty to which he was reprimanded immediately.
“Mr. President, the beautiful nominee before us today is…,” Ngwu said, but Akpabio quickly interrupted, stating, “Stick to the resume. She didn’t include ‘beautiful’ in her CV.”
Though, the conversation between Ngwu and Akpabio stirred laughter among Senators.
Ngwu thereafter, proceeded to laud the profile and competence of the nominee.
Meanwhile, speaking during the screening, the former Nigerian Ambassador to Spain said, “I am here because I believe that if we are able to come together sincerely, to commit to serving this nation, focusing on ensuring that we have peace, then the sky is the limit for this country”.
She underscored the importance of diplomatic and cultural engagement as key to national growth.
She explained that during her tenure as ambassador, she represented the country on various international platforms, notably building a bridge between Nigeria and Spain.
