Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has opened up about his recent health challenges, revealing that he is currently experiencing difficulty walking and occasional swelling in his hands and legs.

The 79-year-old actor spoke about his condition while in Ghana, where he had gone to visit fellow actor Emmanuel Armah, who is also reportedly dealing with health challenges.

Edochie admitted that he is not currently in good health but remains hopeful that his condition will improve.

“Sitting down here, I am not very well myself. Walking is a problem for now but I still have hope that I will recover myself,” the veteran actor said.

He also disclosed that he sometimes wakes up to discover swelling in parts of his body, particularly his hands and legs, although he said the swelling eventually reduces.

“Sometimes, I get up, and some parts of my body are swollen, then it goes down after some time, like my hand and leg are now,” he explained.

Despite what he described as his current physical difficulties, Edochie said he continues to place his hope in God and pray for recovery.

The veteran actor also spoke candidly about his wishes concerning the end of his life, saying he does not want his condition to become a burden on the people around him.

“I just keep asking God, you are the author and finisher of life, whenever it’s time to go, just take me. Don’t let me bother the people around me,” Edochie said.

The actor’s remarks have drawn attention from fans and colleagues, many of whom have expressed concern and wished him strength and recovery.

Edochie remains one of Nollywood’s most recognisable veteran actors, having built a career spanning several decades. His distinctive voice, commanding screen presence and numerous roles have made him a prominent figure in the Nigerian film industry.

His latest disclosure comes during a difficult period for the Nigerian entertainment industry, which has mourned several actors and other prominent figures in 2026.

For now, Edochie says he remains hopeful about his recovery while continuing to rely on his faith as he manages his current health challenges.
