Nigerian troops from the 6 Brigade, Sector 3, under Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have dismantled several bandit hideouts and recovered arms and ammunition in Taraba State.
This was disclosed in a statement on Sunday by Capt. Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations.
He said the operations were executed under the leadership of Brig. Gen. Kingsley Uwa, Commander of the Brigade, targeting multiple locations linked to bandit activities.
“The operation, code-named OP GOLDEN PEACE, was launched after extensive patrols, clearance missions, and consultations with key stakeholders, yielding significant results in the northern part of the state,” the statement revealed.
However, the latest phase of the operation, which started on Nov. 28, focused on Takum Local Government Area, particularly known hideouts such as Lijam High Ground.
During the operation, troops dismantled bandit camps and recovered several items, including 27 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, an AK-47 magazine, a handheld Baofeng radio, and two motorcycles.
“To further ensure the safety of residents, troops extended operations to the Akume and Ananum areas in Donga Local Government Area on Nov. 30, reinforcing their commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state,” the statement added.
Brig. Gen. Uwa hailed the troops for their efforts and urged them to maintain their vigilance.
“Together, we will ensure peace and security across Taraba State and beyond,” the commander was quoted as saying.
He stressed the importance of these operations in creating a secure environment during the ongoing harvest season and the upcoming festive period.
“This is our determined effort to ensure that Taraba does not become a sanctuary for criminal elements,” he added
