On the 24th of November 2024, my curiosity to embark on the COPDEM Media Training at awka in Anambra state became glaring and real. That faithful morning, I woke up feeling excited haven been so bored with my environment in the past months.
To me, traveling to Awka for this program is not just for fun but an avenue to explore from the teaching and experiences to foster my learning ability on journalism and ethics of proficient writing.
From Enugu state to Awka isn’t too much of a distance, by estimation, is just about 1 hour and 45 minutes. This got me relax to pack my luggage carefully so as not to forget anything behind!
At about 2:30PM I had already been set for my trip to Awka. I got to the pack with my mind fully prepared, boarded a bus that is already waiting with passengers seated.
As I watch the driver start the vehicle and the roaring of the engine, I began to feel nervous considering the bad road and the insecurity in our country today. To that effect I bowed my head and prayed silently committing the journey into God’s hands.
The driver very skillful and knowledgeable enough about the route he has been plying for a long time now, keep maneuvering all potholes to ensure safe trip. That alone quale my anxiety and gave me some reasons to be happy again.
Security wise, I found out that lots of road blocks or checkpoints along the road. Perhaps is to checkmate the activities of insecurity around the area. Though there was a funny but serious incident that happen, where a police officer was seen collecting money from our driver and asking him to collect the “change” from the police officer who is in front of us. This act made me believed that police officers may just collect money from drivers without proper scrutiny of who and what they carried in their vehicles. This act is call for national concern perhaps to increase the salaries of this officers so they can do their job well.
In deep breath as I stepped out of the bus already at Awka, I walked briskly into the busy area of where keke nape are parked loading Mbagkwu Area at which the training will take place.
I got to the training ground at Diaspora Digital Media, in save hands, the rising welcome got me astonished asking myself if I was the wife of an important personality for this training.
I was given a room along three beautiful roommates, that night even though we are meeting for the first time, chatted for long, everyone narrating their experiences.
