The leader of the Islamist-led rebels in Syria, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group, Abu Mohammed al-Jolani, who masterminded the overthrow of the Bashar al-Assad regime, spoke Saturday about Israel for the first time since taking over the country.

In an interview with the Syrian TV news channel, Ahmad al-Sharaa, who is better known as guerre Abu Mohammed al-Julani, said that Israel has “no more excuses” to carry out airstrikes in Syria, and that recent IDF attacks on Syrian soil have crossed red lines and threaten an unjustified escalation in the region.

Earlier in the week, the Jewish nation according to the Times Of Isreal, launched a major operation to destroy the Syrian military’s strategic military capabilities, including chemical weapons sites, missiles, air defenses, air force and navy targets, in a bid to prevent them from falling into the hands of hostile elements.

The rebel leader criticised Israel for violating the 1974 armistice agreement.

He also berated Israel for its incursion into southern Syria but said that Syria was too exhausted to launch an attack against Israel.

This week the United Nations accused Israel of violating the 1974 armistice agreement after Israeli troops entered the UN-patrolled buffer zone that separated Israeli and Syrian forces on the Golan Heights last weekend and claimed more land, with Israeli troops now almost 25km away from the capital Damascus.

Israel, which has occupied most of the strategic plateau since 1974, said it acted in self-defence in the face of the political uncertainty in its northeastern neighbour.

Since the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad by HTS-led forces on Sunday, Israel has also executed hundreds of air strikes on Syrian military assets destroying almost 100 percent of its navy and air defences, according to a war monitor.
