Singh: Tinubu mourns former Indian Prime Minister

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu extended heartfelt condolences to India on the passing of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy), released the statement on December 27, 2024.

Singh, who served as India’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, died on Thursday at the age of 92.

His official visit to Nigeria in 2007 was historic, earning him the honor of addressing a joint session of the National Assembly.

President Tinubu paid tribute to Dr. Singh’s dedication to strengthening Nigeria-India relations, noting his diplomatic efforts.

He highlighted the establishment of the Strategic Partnership between Nigeria and India under Singh’s tenure.

This partnership has continued to flourish, driving political and economic prosperity for both countries.

President Tinubu lauded Singh’s efforts to improve cooperation in defense, trade, culture, education, health, science, technology, and ICT.

He expressed gratitude to the people of India for celebrating Singh’s life and accomplishments.

The Nigerian leader saluted Singh’s role in steering India’s economic reforms during globally challenging times.
