New Year: Catholic priest shoots boy dead over knockouts

A Catholic Reverend Father has reportedly shot a boy dead after he set off knockouts within the church premises.

NewsBand understand that the unfortunate incident occurred during the New Year Mass on January 1, 2025, in Amaimo, Ikeduru Local Government Area (LGA) of Imo State.

At the time of filing this report, this medium could not independently verify the name of the priest.

But in a Facebook post shared on the handle, ‘For The Love Of Anambra’on Wednesday, eyewitness accounts were quoted, reporting that after the deceased set off the knockouts, “the priest, whose identity remains undisclosed, picked up a firearm and fatally shot him.

“The incident has left the community in shock and mourning, with residents expressing outrage and demanding a thorough investigation to uncover the facts behind the unfortunate event.”

Meanwhile, the incident has been confirmed by the spokesman of the command in Imo State, Henry Okoye.

Mr. Okoye noted that an investigation has been launched into the ugly development.

“We have launched a detailed investigation to ascertain the remote facts surrounding the incident.

“Further development on the case will be communicated in due course, please,” the police image maker stated.
