Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has issued a stern warning to farming and fishing communities in Baga.
He cautioned that any collaboration with Boko Haram insurgents poses a severe threat to regional peace and stability.
This message reflects the ongoing efforts to combat insurgency and maintain security in the area.
During his visit to Baga town on Wednesday, Zulum addressed residents at the District Head’s palace.
His visit came in response to a recent attack in the nearby Dumba community, highlighting the urgent need for vigilance and cooperation among locals.
He emphasized that community support is vital for overcoming the challenges posed by insurgents.
“I urge the people of Baga and neighboring areas to limit their farming activities to military-approved zones,” Zulum stated.
He reiterated the importance of adhering to guidelines established by both the Nigerian military and the Borno State government to ensure safety and security.
Compliance with these regulations is essential for the community’s well-being.
The governor strongly condemned any form of collusion with insurgents, labeling it as unacceptable.
He explained that such actions undermine ongoing efforts to restore stability in Borno State.
The community must unite against insurgency to foster a secure environment for future development.
Zulum also inspected a 2,000-hectare solar-powered surface irrigation system at Mile 3 in Baga.
This project aims to significantly enhance agricultural productivity in the region.
He expressed optimism about the potential benefits of this initiative for local farmers and the broader agricultural landscape.
“This irrigation project marks a significant milestone in our quest for food security,” Zulum remarked during an interview.
He highlighted that it aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of achieving food sufficiency while reducing production costs.
The governor’s commitment to agricultural advancement is evident in his strategic planning.
Additionally, Zulum announced plans to utilize the irrigated land for cassava cultivation after the wheat harvest. This approach aims to maximize the benefits of the solar-powered system while minimizing operational expenses. Such initiatives will not only boost local agriculture but also enhance economic stability in the region.
“This initiative will revolutionize agricultural production in Borno State,” he asserted. Zulum believes that strengthening the state’s capacity in wheat and cassava farming will provide a comparative advantage. This transformation is crucial for the long-term sustainability of the agricultural sector.
In Kukawa town, Governor Zulum received a warm welcome from enthusiastic residents. He took this opportunity to pledge his commitment to accelerating reconstruction efforts in education, healthcare, and infrastructure. His dedication to improving community welfare is evident in his proactive approach to governance.
Furthermore, Zulum commended the troops of the 101 Special Forces Battalion for their bravery and commitment.
He assured them of continued support from the state government, emphasizing the importance of their role in maintaining security.
The collaboration between military and civilian efforts is essential for restoring peace in the region.
Accompanying the governor were notable officials, including Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno, Engr. Bukar Talba, and Hon. Karta Maina Ma’aji.
Their presence underscores the collective commitment of the Borno State government to address the challenges faced by local communities and foster development.
