Kano State Government approves N8.2bn for development projects

Kano, Nigeria – January 30, 2025 – In a significant move to enhance infrastructure and development, Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf approved a budget of N8,199,635,732.07. This funding will support the execution of 15 major projects across Kano State. The announcement came from Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Director General of Media and Publicity, after the 24th Executive Council Meeting at the Kano Government House on Wednesday.

This allocation will address various sectors, including education, infrastructure, and environmental initiatives. Consequently, it reflects the administration’s commitment to sustainable development and improving residents’ quality of life.

Key Allocations Breakdown

Among the notable allocations, N2,737,518,204.96 is designated for constructing a one-story block of four classrooms in each local government area. This project aims to significantly improve educational facilities and accessibility for students throughout the state.

Additionally, N2,311,388,177.70 has been approved for the dualization of key roads, such as the Government House Roundabout to Lodge Road. These improvements are vital for enhancing transportation and reducing traffic congestion in the region.

Other allocations include

– N1,870,814,360.10 for remodeling the Africa House Conference Hall at the Government House.
– N1,213,400,000 for supplying diesel and petrol to various government entities.
– N790,757,887.93 to settle liabilities with Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO).
– N303,687,500.00 for printing security documents related to land management.

Moreover, N117,346,156.28 has been allocated for establishing a Model Village in Doga Village, Gabasawa Local Government Area. Additionally, N568,584,750.00 will fund the procurement of 300 motorcycles for agricultural extension services.

Environmental and Monitoring Initiatives

In a proactive approach, the Executive Council has mandated the Ministry of Environment to implement the state’s Climate Change Policy. This initiative aims to foster a low-carbon and climate-resilient environment for the future. Furthermore, a Project Monitoring Committee will oversee the execution of these projects, ensuring quality and timely delivery.

The committee will be led by the Commissioner for Project Monitoring, working alongside other key commissioners to guarantee successful project implementation.

Recognition of Leadership

In recognition of his efforts, Governor Yusuf received an award from the Yar’gaya Education Development Forum (YEDFO) for his contributions to community development. Additionally, the management of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sagir Adamu Abbas, expressed gratitude for resolving a long-standing land dispute by granting the university land titles.
