Lagos State DSVA advocates against sexual, GBV at CDC meeting
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) is intensifying its efforts to combat sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).
Recently, the agency conducted an awareness campaign during the Community Development Committee (CDC) meeting for residents of Lagos Island East Local Government.
Led by Ms. Opemipo Ogunse, a representative of the DSVA, the session aimed to educate community members.
Participants learned about various forms of abuse, effective reporting mechanisms, and the range of support services available to survivors.
Notably, Ms. Ogunse highlighted the seriousness of SGBV cases, sharing alarming statistics about survivors, including a three-month-old baby and a 75-year-old grandmother.
Ms. Ogunse also urged attendees to take proactive steps against SGBV. She encouraged them to promptly report incidents using the agency’s toll-free hotline, 08000-333-333, which operates 24 hours a day.
She emphasized that collective community action is crucial in eradicating abuse and fostering a safer society.
The meeting was attended by over 30 CDC members, including the CDC Chairman, Chief Abu Elemoro Martins. Chief Martins commended the DSVA team for their dedication to raising awareness and equipping communities with vital information. He stressed the importance of collaboration between residents and government agencies to create an environment free from all forms of abuse.
The DSVA continues to lead initiatives aimed at combating domestic and sexual violence across Lagos State, reaffirming its commitment to supporting survivors and preventing future cases through education and advocacy.
