Osogbo, March 2, 2025 – Governor Ademola Adeleke has eased the dusk-to-dawn curfew in Ifon and Ilobu, effective immediately.
Previously enforced to curb unrest, the restriction now lifts as part of efforts to restore normalcy and foster peace between both communities.
Consequently, a gradual return to peace in these areas is happening. Previously embroiled in violent communal clashes over land disputes, they are now witnessing calm.
Commissioner Kolapo Alimi announced the governor’s satisfaction with enhanced security, emphasizing progress.
Initially set from 7 pm to 7 am, the state shortened the curfew to 10 pm–4 am, starting today.
Governor Adeleke commended the progress made toward restoring calm in the communities. Nevertheless, he emphasized that total peace has yet to be fully achieved.
Governor Adeleke expressed confidence in restoring total community harmony, stating, “Though peace isn’t fully achieved, it’s only a matter of time.”
Initially imposed on January 16, 2025, after violent clashes caused deaths and property damage, the curfew remains eased. Meanwhile, Governor Adeleke ordered security agencies—including the Army, Police, and Civil Defence—to sustain 24-hour surveillance in affected zones.
Additionally, he urged traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents to collaborate with the government. Furthermore, during Ramadan, he encouraged Ifon and Ilobu citizens to pray for enduring peace.
Governor Adeleke reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring law and order. He issued a stern warning that individuals or groups found instigating further violence would face strict legal consequences. “Anyone or group of persons caught masterminding any further breakdown of law and order will be made to face the full wrath of the law,” the statement read.
The Osun State Government remains focused on fostering unity and stability in the region as efforts continue to address the root causes of the conflict.
