Mudashiru Obasa has officially resumed his role as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
This follows Mojisola Meranda’s resignation, which occurred after she served just 49 days in the position.
Transitioning swiftly, Obasa reclaimed leadership, while Meranda’s brief tenure concluded abruptly, marking a shift in the assembly’s dynamics.
The reinstatement ceremony took place on Monday, during which Obasa expressed his appreciation to his colleagues and key political figures for their support. He specifically acknowledged the contributions of Bisi Akande and Olusegun Osoba, both former governors of Osun and Ogun states, respectively.
In his remarks, He highlighted the significance of the smooth transition, describing it as a testament to the political maturity and internal conflict resolution mechanisms within the assembly. “Today is not the day for lengthy speeches but a moment to express gratitude,” Obasa stated. “I thank my colleagues for their efforts and extend special appreciation to our party leaders, including Bisi Akande and Olusegun Osoba, for their presence and guidance.”
Obasa reaffirmed the assembly’s commitment to serving the people of Lagos State, emphasizing that the legislature remains focused on protecting and advancing the interests of its constituents. “What has transpired today demonstrates that this house is capable of addressing its challenges internally and moving forward in unity,” he added.
Following his remarks, Obasa adjourned the plenary session. His reinstatement marks a continuation of leadership aimed at fostering stability and progress within the Lagos State House of Assembly.
