Security forces have neutralised Maigemu, a notorious kingpin of the Lakurawa terror organization during a coordinated operation in Kebbi State.

The operation, which included joint team of security operatives and vigilance group members, took place on Thursday in Kuncin Baba, a remote area in Arewa Local Government.

Director of Security at the Kebbi State Cabinet Office, Mr. AbdulRahman Usman-Zagga, confirmed the development in a statement on Friday in Birnin Kebbi.

He described the operation as a huge breakthrough in the state’s efforts to curb criminal activities linked to the Lakurawa group, which has been tormenting the State.

According to Usman, security forces engaged Maigemu in a gun battle before killing him. His body was recovered as evidence of the successful operation.

This development comes just a week after Governor Nasir Idris visited Bagiza and Rausa Kade communities in Arewa Local Government to console residents following the killing of six people by the criminal group.

During his visit, Governor Idris had assured affected communities of immediate security reinforcements and strategic measures to tackle the growing threat.

Meanwhile, Usman-Zagga attributed the successful operation to the governor’s proactive approach and commitment to security.

He also commended the continuous logistical support provided to security operatives, particularly those involved in special operations.

Residents have been urged to cooperate with security agencies by sharing intelligence and reporting suspicious activities to help restore peace in the state.

The Lakurawa group, known for its violent activities, infiltrated Sokoto and Kebbi states from Niger Republic, contributing to the worsening insecurity in the North-West region.
