In a decisive move against banditry, Nigerian Army troops from the 6 Brigade partnered with Operation Whirl Stroke and Operation Safe Haven.

Together, they successfully dismantled criminal networks throughout Taraba and Plateau states.

Launching coordinated strikes on March 22, forces targeted Achalle, a volatile border zone between Karim Lamido and Wase LGAs, overpowering armed groups in fierce clashes.

As bandits fled, troops seized a motorcycle and advanced to a second hideout—a sprawling compound with over 70 huts.

Despite resistance, soldiers subdued militants using superior firepower, recovering another motorcycle and an international passport linked to suspect Muhammadu Dahiru. Meanwhile, security teams cleared Dutsen Zaki high ground, neutralizing threats and securing the area.

Earlier, on March 16, troops raided Mararraba Donga in Taraba, storming the homes of notorious gunrunners Irimiya Aboki and Tanko “Arewa Mafia” Adamu. Though the duo escaped, authorities confiscated four pistols, a pump-action rifle, and six cartridges, crippling illegal arms distribution.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating banditry, urging citizens to share timely intelligence to bolster operations. “These successes reflect our resolve to protect communities,” the statement emphasized, highlighting intensified efforts to disrupt criminal activities.

Critically, the raids underscore a strategic shift toward preemptive strikes and inter-agency collaboration. By targeting border regions and high-risk hideouts, forces have disrupted supply routes and destabilized syndicates. However, challenges persist as bandits adapt tactics, exploiting remote terrains to evade capture.

Communities in Taraba and Plateau have welcomed the operations, citing renewed hope for stability. “We’re tired of living in fear,” said a local trader in Wase, praising troops for reclaiming contested zones. Yet, residents urge sustained military presence to prevent regroupings.
