To strengthen security, the Anambra Police Command has partnered with sister agencies to launch Operation Ugo Ga Chi – Zero Kidnapping and Violent Crimes. Specifically, this initiative seeks to improve public safety ahead of the Easter celebrations. Furthermore, it reinforces the state’s commitment to eradicating criminal activities through coordinated efforts.

The official launch occurred on April 14 in Awawbia, following the recent amendment of the Anambra State Homeland Security Law, 2025. Notably, this law is among six newly approved bills aimed at enhancing safety through community engagement and intelligence gathering. Additionally, the legal framework empowers security agencies to take decisive action against crime.

During the event, State Police Commissioner Ikioye Orutugu emphasized the operation’s proactive approach. He declared, “This initiative reassures residents and encourages them to return home for Easter without fear. Our target is zero kidnapping, zero robbery, and zero violent crimes.” Moreover, he stressed the need for public cooperation, urging citizens to report suspicious activities.

Representatives from multiple security agencies attended the launch, including the Nigeria Immigration Service, NSCDC, Navy, Army, DSS, NDLEA, FRSC, Customs, and Vigilante Groups. Consequently, this collaboration ensures a unified strategy to combat crime. Additionally, stakeholders called for better welfare packages for security personnel to boost morale.

The operation will deploy increased patrols, stop-and-search activities, and visible policing across the state. Importantly, residents are encouraged to support security operatives during this period. Meanwhile, special attention will be given to Awka North Local Government to prevent herder-farmer clashes, especially during the rainy season.

Ultimately, Operation Ugo Ga Chi marks a decisive step toward securing Anambra State. By leveraging intelligence and community participation, the initiative aims to create a safer environment for all. Therefore, this joint effort demonstrates the government’s resolve to maintain peace and order.
