NPF completes extradition of murder suspect “Killaboi” from Qatar

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has successfully extradited Benjamin Nnayereugo, alias “Killaboi,” from Qatar to face murder charges.

Authorities transported the fugitive to Abuja early Saturday, marking a victory for international justice collaboration.

According to police reports, Nnayereugo allegedly killed Augusta Onuwabhagbe in Lagos before fleeing Nigeria in 2023.

Shockingly, he later released a false confession video to mislead investigators, complicating the manhunt.

Following an INTERPOL Red Notice, Sierra Leonean police first captured Nnayereugo in Freetown.

However, he escaped custody weeks later, beginning an 18-month transnational evasion across three continents before settling in Qatar.

Through coordinated efforts, INTERPOL’s Abuja and Doha offices finally tracked the suspect using advanced biometric identification.

Qatari authorities subsequently arrested him in February after confirming his true identity through forensic evidence.

Police Commissioner Olumuyiwa Adejobi praised the joint operation involving Nigeria’s Justice Ministry and Qatari officials.

He emphasized this case demonstrates how global cooperation can overcome jurisdictional barriers in serious crimes.

Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun personally commended all participating agencies, noting the extradition reflects Nigeria’s strengthened international law enforcement partnerships.

He specifically thanked Qatar’s government for their professional handling of the sensitive case.

Forensic analysts reveal Nnayereugo used multiple aliases, including “Toure Abdoulaye,” during his flight from justice.

Investigators painstakingly pieced together his complex travel patterns through financial records and immigration databases.

Legal experts highlight this as Nigeria’s first successful extradition from Qatar under their bilateral judicial agreement.

The process required meticulous documentation to satisfy both nations’ stringent legal requirements.

As preparations begin for trial, prosecutors confirm they have compiled overwhelming evidence, including digital forensics and eyewitness testimonies.

The police vow to ensure transparent proceedings that deliver justice for the victim’s family.

This landmark operation signals Nigeria’s growing capability to pursue criminals globally.

It also serves as a warning to fugitives that international borders no longer guarantee escape from justice.

The police leadership has pledged to build on this success by enhancing training for transnational crime investigations.

They aim to establish more international partnerships to combat increasingly sophisticated criminal networks.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family expressed relief at the suspect’s capture after two agonizing years.

They thanked investigators for their persistence and called for swift judicial proceedings to conclude their ordeal.

As Nnayereugo “Killaboi” awaits trial, authorities continue investigating possible accomplices who may have aided his international flight.

The police urge anyone with additional information to come forward.

This successful operation demonstrates Nigeria’s commitment to upholding the rule of law globally.

It reinforces that justice may be delayed, but determined international cooperation can ultimately prevail.
