Ogun partners Nike Art gallery to elevate Olumo Rock tourism

In a strategic effort to enhance cultural tourism, the Ogun State Government has partnered with Nike Art Gallery.

This collaboration aims to transform the Olumo Rock Tourist Centre into a premier cultural destination.

Governor Dapo Abiodun announced this initiative during a visit from Chief (Mrs) Nike Davies-Okundaye, the gallery’s founder, at his office in Abeokuta.

The partnership will convert the event center within the Olumo Rock complex into a dedicated art exhibition space.

This new space will showcase curated works from Nike Art Gallery, significantly increasing tourist visits.

Specifically, the goal is to raise annual visitor numbers from 20,000 to over 100,000.

The transformation is expected to be completed before the National Sports Festival in May.

Governor Abiodun emphasized that this project fits into a broader strategy to rejuvenate the state’s cultural tourism sector.

Moreover, the government actively promotes other attractions, including the Adire Market and the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library.

Additionally, the residences of national icons like MKO Abiola and the Ransome-Kuti family are also highlighted.

Furthermore, the Governor discussed ongoing initiatives supporting the Adire industry. These initiatives include providing solar-powered equipment and launching the Adire Ogun Digital Marketplace. Additionally, a state policy encourages wearing Adire fabrics, promoting local culture and craftsmanship.

Chief (Mrs) Davies-Okundaye expressed her foundation’s enthusiasm for attracting international attention to the enhanced site. She predicts that the upgraded gallery will draw visits from foreign dignitaries, similar to her successful gallery in Abuja.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to using culture, art, and tourism as catalysts for economic development. They believe that this partnership will foster global engagement while showcasing Ogun State’s rich cultural heritage.
