Bayelsa leads medals table at National Sports Festival

Bayelsa State has surged ahead in the medal standings at the National Sports Festival unfolding in Abeokuta, demonstrating remarkable athletic prowess.

After four days of intense competition, their athletes have claimed 19 gold, 10 silver, and eight bronze medals, establishing a clear lead. The state’s consistent performance highlights their strong sports development programs and dedicated training regimes.

Meanwhile, Delta State has fought its way to second place with 16 gold medals alongside five silver and nine bronze. Rivers State trails closely in third position, having secured six gold, three silver, and seven bronze medals so far. The tight race among these top contenders keeps spectators eagerly anticipating each new result.

Osun State, which briefly held second place earlier in the competition, now sits in fourth with six gold and one silver medal. Edo State follows in fifth, showcasing depth with four gold, 17 silver, and 21 bronze medals. Lagos State rounds out the top six with four gold, eight silver, and 12 bronze, proving the fierce competition across all regions.

Athletes from participating states have collectively earned 256 medals across various sports, reflecting the festival’s spirit of excellence. This biennial event, organized by the Federal Government, unites competitors from all 36 states and the FCT in friendly yet determined rivalry. Beyond medals, the festival strengthens national unity and celebrates Nigeria’s sporting talent.

As events continue, spectators cheer for their home teams while athletes push their limits for podium finishes. The festival not only crowns champions but also inspires young talents nationwide. With each passing day, new records emerge, and underdogs rise, keeping the excitement alive until the final medal is awarded.
