Commuters and residents across the Federal Capital Territory were left stranded over the weekend after torrential rain led to heavy urban flooding, submerging key arterial roads and property. Areas hardest hit include Wuse 2, Katampe, Mabushi, Lugbe, Gwarimpa, and Gudu, where several vehicles were inundated by rising floodwaters. The bridge connecting Gaduwa to Durumi was completely rendered impassable, while events centers in Gudu suffered severe structural flooding. Emergency officials and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) attribute the flash floods to clogged drainage channels, construction on natural waterways, and the illegal conversion of designated green areas. FCT authorities have urged residents in low-lying zones to evacuate and warned motorists against driving into flooded roads.
