The U.S.-based lawyer and critic of the present President Muhammadu Buhari administration, Emeka Ugwuonye that was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, has been released.

Mr. Ugwuonye, a contributor of elombah.com, was picked up by men of the Department of State Services (DSS) and taken to their office for questioning.

Emeka is the President/CEO of Eculaw in Rockville, Maryland, United States, and founder of The Due Process Advocate (DPA), a Facebook think tank group.

The victim alleges that being picked up by the security men is not unconnected to his constant criticism of the current government.

Mr. Ugwuonye was an adept supporter of President Buhari prior to the elections until he took the criticism angle of the government he was convinced is fast failing its people.

In a latest update written by the victim himself titled “Clerical/Bureaucratic Error? Tell That To The Marines!“, he said:

“I’m okay, guys. The fact that I’m writing to you from my system should convince you. But i have gist for you. This is a fucked-up government and system. Tomorrow, I will file a fresh case against them. I will remain a thorn in the flesh of any dictatorship in this country. They ain’t seen nothing yet. I only just started. Buhari is another presidency by proxy.

“Yes, they apologised and blamed the incident of last night on clerical errors between two agencies. But, who cares? There cannot be a harassment or intimidation by mistake. The fact is that this President did send a signal to all agencies of government that it is okay to pick and choose when to obey the constitution and when not to, when to trample upon rights and when to respect rights.

“In doing that, the government is assured of abundant number of citizens who are so ignorant of the meaning of liberty and human dignity such that they could be cheering any dictatorship in sight.

“Though I’m yet to give you a detailed account, may I use this opportunity to thank all of you that stood by me. I really do appreciate your support. As for those who used the opportunity to steal punches on my person and my credibility, I shall continue to pray for them and work hard to free them from the shackles of ignorance. Liberty and rights are too precious that we must default to liberty and freedom. We must not be slaves and choose silence out of fear.

“Cheers!”

Attached are the his narration on the development yesterday when he was arrested yesterday evening:

EMEKA UGWUONYE AT THE NIGERIAN AIRPORT: UPDATE. I was told it was a clerical/bureaucratic reason that I was intercepted at the airport tonight. I don’t believe so. There is a plan to detain me. If that is the case, I will tell my friends and members of our group not to panic. Stay strong. Whatever it has to do with my consistent criticism of government. There really could not be any other reason for it. Assuming they start telling you some stories to you henceforth, when I may not be able to…
