Ahead of the Saturday’s senatorial re-run election in Okigwe zone, fresh facts have emerged over top secret plans by politicians and interested personalities within and outside the senatorial zone to disrupt and negatively influence the outcome of the electoral exercise.

In the build up to the exercise, the People’s Democratic Party candidate in the election, Chief Athan Achonu, it was learnt, has perfected strong political ties, to deliver Okigwe zone to the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Governorship candidate of the party in last year’s election, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, ahead of the 2019 gubernatorial election in the state.

Sources close to the PDP candidate disclosed that Emeka Ihedioha is not resting on his oars, as he is seriously meant to use the Okigwe senatorial poll to make a strong political statement, having lost to the incumbent, Rochas Okorocha, and in preparation ahead of 2019.

The source also revealed that in serious determination to sway victory to the PDP candidate, Chief Athan Achonu by every means necessary, Ihedioha had perfected plans to relocate to the Umunumo residence of the PDP candidate, together with his array of imported political thugs from Owerri, from where they would coordinate their activities on the Election Day.

The source further hinted that Ihedioha had recently boasted that he would decimate Governor Okorocha, using his contacts and connections in INEC, as according to him, “this election is not about Athan Achonu, but a time to dislodge Okorocha and his group and entrench ourselves politically in Okigwe zone ahead of 2019”.

It was however gathered that the latest political alliance between the two politicians is coming after relevant political leaders, stakeholders, PDP chieftains and other interest groups from the zone had deserted the PDP candidate in preference for his main rival, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu, of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

When contacted about the latest development, a source close to the APC candidate, stated that the former Imo Assembly Speaker is not perturbed about the Achonu/Ihedioha “unwholesome alliance”, as the APC candidate is in high spirit, while exuding confidence of winning the poll.

He described the alliance as the gathering of strange bedfellows who are with little or no electoral value, adding that Okigwe people, who are eager to regain their political freedom are ever poised to vote and protect their rights.

He also maintained that no amount of skewed processes adopted to disrupt, maneuver and negatively influence the forthcoming peaceful election would succeed, as according to him, “people of Okigwe zone have collectively resolved to work towards the emergence of Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu, as their senator come Saturday, 20th February, to enable him translate his visions for Okigwe into reality.
