PDP crisis: Sheriff gives conditions for amicable settlement

Factional Leader of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of Nigeria, has accused the PDP Board of trustees of loving money to the detriment of the party.

Alhaji Modu Sheriff stated that the board led by Senator Walid Jibrin, should sacked and be replaced by more focused leaders.

He stated this in a press release presented by his deputy.

In the press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, Sheriff accused the Board of trustees of making provocative and unguarded statements.

Mr. Sheriff was reacting to the meeting of the Board of trustees, held in Abuja on Monday, where some drastic decisions were made pertaining to the party.

The decision taken by the board include that the next national convention of the party would be held in Abuja, and a new national convention planning committee would be appointed.

The board of trustees also passed a vote of confidence on the Senator Ahmed Makarfi led national committee.

Mr. Cairo Ojuoghoh, Deputy National Chairman of the PDP faction led by Sheriff, speaking on behalf of his boss, in a statement in Abuja on that Tuesday said, the trustees, Mr. Jibrin must be sacked.

His statement reads;

“Having deliberated on the reported outcome of ythe Board of Trustees members on 29th August 2016. We have resolved to state as follows, that the resolutions is in short of the decision reached with Dickson/Mantu reconciliation committee.

“The agreement we had is that Sherif should chair a National Executive Committee (NECo) meeting wher Makarfi will attend as a member of the BOT.AT THE meeting Chairman of convention Committee will be agreed upon, a new Convention Committee set up including all other sub committees; zoning, Finance, Accreditation etc.

“The venue of the convention will be in Abuja, where a new leadership of the party will emerge, internal democracy will be respected and confidence will return to the party.

“And we had hoped the  opportunity will be given where everybody will meet under one umbrella and shake hands and will see the PDP reemerged for the challenges ahed.

“We completely reject the vote of confidence past on the illegal caretaker committee.”

He urged Mr.  Makarfi to resign, insisting that the BOT Chairman Senator Walid Jubrin Chairmanship has brought crisis to the party, that the tenure of the BOT Chairman had expired. Having stayed more than ten years as Secretary and Chairman of BOT,  

With this, it shows that reconciliation is still far from PDP, probably it is the court of final jurisdiction that will determine the way forward for PDP
