A school bus driver, Godwin Etute has been sentenced to death by hanging for the murder of a co-employee, Tolulope Adisa, with a screwdriver.
Mr. Etute was convicted by a Lagos State High Court, sitting in Ikeja on Wednesday.
The 32-year-old convict and the late Adisa were both employees of Value Land Nursery and Primary School, located at 13, Lateef Lasisi Street, Egbe, Lagos.
Etute committed the offence on January 27, 2012, at 6a.m., behind Aris Hotel, Egbe, Lagos, in the Ikeja Judicial Division.
Having been found culpable of the crime through a confessional statement, Etute faced a one count charge of murder contrary to Section 211 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The convict had told the court that he had endured for long unbearable insults from the deceased.
He was said to have taken the deceased to a solitary place with the school bus, ordered her out and stabbed her on the left side of her neck with a screwdriver.
According to the prosecution, “the suspect, after committing the act, dragged the victim’s lifeless body into the bus, dumped her behind the aforementioned hotel and washed off the blood stains on him and the bus.”
The judge, who held that there was a direct link between the convict and the blood-soaked shirt, ruled:
“I hereby sentence you to death.”
