According to Federal Road Safety Corp [FRSC] statistics, at least, 70 officials were killed this year by reckless drivers across Nigeria.

This was disclosed by FRSC Corps Marshal, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi on Friday in Abuja.

Oyeyemi was speaking at the end of the year’s management strategy session.

He stated that the officials were killed while on duty, saying that losing 70 personnel was not a joke.

He, however, noted that the figure was lower than 2015 which stood at 160.

The FRSC boss said the corps would fight reckless drivers in the country as they were responsible for about 40 per cent of deaths of its officials.

He said he had been raising this alarm since last year that the corps was experiencing increase in violence among drivers and lawlessness.

Oyeyemi said recently at Talata Mafara in Zamfara State, a motorist ran into a mobile court in session killing three FRSC officials immediately, including a civil defence operative.

He said the government was working to address the problem.

He noted, though, that President Muhammadu Buhari was aware of their plight and is doing something about it.
