Comfort Emmanson, the Ibom Air passenger recently freed from detention, says freedom hasn’t ended her pain.
On Wednesday, just hours after stepping out of the Kirikiri Correctional Centre, Comfort took to Instagram to thank friends, supporters, and well-wishers who stood by her during her ordeal.
“Thank you so much for all the prayers, love, and support,” she wrote. “I’ve been released from prison, but I’m still in pain because of how I was treated. I just need rest and medical care before I share my own side of the story. I truly appreciate you all from the bottom of my heart. God bless you. Thank you, my great God!”
Her post came shortly after an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court in Ogba struck out the five-count charge against her.
The court had accused her of causing a disturbance aboard an Ibom Air flight, assaulting a crew member, and acting in a way that could breach public order.
Relief came when both the complainant and the airline told the court they no longer wanted to pursue the matter.
Magistrate Olanrewaju Salami then ordered her discharge, bringing weeks of legal drama to an end.
Comfort’s release marks the latest twist in a case that stirred nationwide debate over passenger rights, airline protocols, and how high-profile disputes get resolved in Nigeria.
While she is now free, Comfort says the physical and emotional wounds from her time behind bars remain.
For now, she plans to rest, seek medical attention, and prepare to tell her full version of events.
